Pittsburgh Family photographer | Everything was touched by magic

A kind of golden hour one remembers for a life time…Everything was touched by magic

This beautiful family was one of my last of the year for full sessions ( in 2017) we were so luck to have the most beautiful day in October …which is kinda rare in Pittsburgh – we never know what we are going to get.  The sun came out to play and gave us the warmth & glow that I love. It hugged tight and said goodnight – as that was the last of the summer feels in Pittsburgh that year.

This light though – GAH …and that sweet boy <3 Backlit, golden hour, pittsburgh, film look, north park , boy on swing, family Backlit, golden hour, pittsburgh, film look, north park , boy on swing, family That way he looks at her <3 and she looks at him – “melt” Backlit, golden hour, pittsburgh, film look, north park , boy on swing, family

Give a boy a giant swing – and there will be endless fun & giggles

Oh and dancing too !

Pittsburgh Family portraiture | The last apple blossom

Sometimes weather doesn’t always cooperate. We had planned the apple blossom loom session for month’s in advance.

The date had been pushed multiple times. Finally we had a beautiful evening and we missed all the blooms- aw shucks !

I still love going to my local family farm – Soergels apple orchard

It’s so beautiful there !

*not to mention when my session is over I get to stock up on my favorite goodies at the store*

(no blooms were damage in this session – this bloom was brought from the clients home )

Creating magical memories : Children like consistency

Pamela Salai photography branch stars logo twinkle twinkle

You know those great pair of jeans you own that you just love ?

That is kinda what it’s like when you find a photographer that you love.

Ok … so were not a pair of jeans. We are that awesome pair of jeans that you know & love & will hold onto forever.

Or even will purchase over & over even though they are the most expensive jeans you ever bought ( it’s what we do for love)

(Why ? What ? Wait – what is she talking about? )

I have watched this happen personally in a few different ways. So that is why I thought it was important to tell you all.

Ok- get to the point ( right ?)

Lol, ok so this is what I mean.

I have had the pleasure of watching some couples become families and watch their children grow

I have have seen families come & go & some come back again

I have had some that I have only seen once

Here is what I have observed. Your children get use to me. Which is great !

Children like consistency.

it builds trust ( with trust your get real personalities )

When you bounce around to once photographer to the next most children start of timid.

Sometimes never warming up into the end when it’s to late ( this is esp. tough when it’s a mini)

Hey – I get it ! I like a good deal too. Esp. when your next to favorite jeans are on sale & who doesn’t love more than one pair of jeans – right ?

I know this all sounds kind or silly.

My point is… try to stick with consistency for the kids. Even if it’s between 1 or 2 photographers

I love watching you become families and watching your children grow & your family

I have watched children be timid & afraid to being themselves ( which what parent doesn’t love actually capture your child in true spirit )

I hope to see you all over & over.

Thank you for the most fabulous 2016 !!!

Pittsburgh Family Portraits | Sneak Peek of  “The Garden party” family photos

If I had a flower

for ever time you made me

smile and laugh

I’d have a garden to walk in

forever

I am so excited to finally show a sneak peek of  “The garden” party (<<<click link to book your event or session in this beautiful place : Referred to as THE GARDEN ) session

The morning started off with light crashing in through the trees. It was a perfect day for a garden party & that is just what we did.

The set design came simple to me when I found this space.

I draped Spanish Moss from the trees. Lets some pieces fall to the ground. Hung flowers as if they were in bloom.

I rented these beautiful lanterns from Vintage Alley Rentals in Pittsburgh, Pa. ( <<< I use them a lot 😀) .

My friends Sarah loaned me her moss cover chair that she created for our Pittsburgh shootout The Magic Within (<<< Another one coming this fall stay tuned : Fall Into Magic )

The space was already breathtaking & the family was beautiful I didn’t need to do much!

I can not wait to show you more! Make sure to check back to see a handful of the final photos!

How to create magical memories.

How to create magical memories.

OK. Lets face it kids can be tough. Sometimes the adults can be just as tough or not harder than the little ones. Not everyone loves to “pose” in front of the camera-or in front of strangers.

1. Don’t be a stranger. Get to know your family. Ask questions find out what makes them who they are. Make a questionnaire & use it. Make sure to really get to know them.

2. Blend their clothing colors to match their home. Wait- you mean don’t just tell them to wear a basic color that you tell everyone to wear? That is right. Find out what colors are in their rooms that they plan on hanging these memories. After all you do want these hanging up in their home right ? Trust me- they will second guess hanging a large canvas if they decided to wear all blue’s because it makes the kids eyes stand out. Than come to find out her home is beige & creams with a hints of blush and blue doesn’t match on the giant blank wall that needed a gallery on it.

3. Help them. The only way they are going to feel good & look good is if you guide them. Don’t be afraid of this. Practice with friends first. Practice makes perfect after all – right ?

I personally do stylized|concept sessions. So I make pinterest boards for all my sessions. I create a theme based off the family. Basically, every session has a purpose and a reason I chose that prop or that color or that location. Pinterest is a great way for me to lay it all out & see what looks the best together from clothes, colors to props. I start with a sketch pad & than take it digital.

I always suggest to the mum to hire a makeup artist ( which I can provide for an additional fee). Show her places she can buy/rent clothes for herself or the kids. Why spend all that extra money on an outfit you might not wear again.

Come back often for more tips & ideas!
